Gunther Championships

Gunther is a Professional wrestler born in Vienna, Austria. Formerly known as Walter, he is widely considered to be one of the most dominating wrestlers of the current era. He is the leader of the group Imperium. A huge professional wrestling fan since a very young age, Gunther began his career at the age of 18 in the Austrian independent circuit under the name Big Van Walter.

The next year, in 2006, he made his debut in Japan. Over the next few years, he went on to wrestle for numerous promotions across Japan, the USA, and Europe. In 2019, he was signed by WWE and drafted to NXT UK, where many considered Walter to be the face of the brand. He won the NXT UK Championship there and established himself as a dominating wrestler within WWE. He made his main roster debut in 2022 and was then renamed Gunther.

Gunther Intercontinental Championship Defenses (666 Days)

Gunther won the WWE Intercontinental Championship on an episode of SmackDown in 2022 and went on to hold it for 666 days, which is the longest in the title history. He lost the belt to Sami Zayn at WrestleMania XL.

Gunther Accomplishments

Gunther has won the WWE King of the Ring 2024. He defeated the veteran Randy Orton in the finals to win the King’s Crown. He was also very near to winning the WWE Royal Rumble but was eliminated as number two by Cody Rhodes in 2023. Gunther holds the record for the longest reign in the history of the WWE Intercontinental Championship at 666 days. He also stands second in the list of longest reigns that began in the WWE WrestleMania Era, i.e. after 1985. Only Roman Reigns’ 1316 days reign is longer than his 870 days title run with the NXT UK Championship.
