SummerSlam 2024 - Against Damian Priest
Gunther won the 2024 King of the Ring tournament at WWE King and Queen of the Ring after defeating Randy Orton in the finals. Not only did he win the King’s Crown, but was also awarded a world title match at SummerSlam. The World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest retained his title at Clash at the Castle and Money in the Bank since then and the two stars then collided at SummerSlam, where Gunther defeated Priest to become the new World Heavyweight Champion.
SummerSlam 2023 - Against Drew McIntyre
Gunther’s first match at WWE SummerSlam was at the 2023 edition. He had won the title in June 2022 but did not compete at the 2022 event. At WrestleMania 39, he retained the title against Drew McIntyre and Sheamus in a triple-threat match. The Scottish Psychopath went on a hiatus following this loss and started feuding with Gunther upon his return three months later. This would eventually lead to a match at SummerSlam for Gunther’s Intercontinental Championship.
At the event, the two stars gave in their everything in an attempt to win including using steel steps and deadly chops. Gunther ducked McIntyre’s Claymore kick and then in the end, performed some high-flying action, a lariat, and then a powerbomb to put McIntyre to rest.
