Over the past several weeks, many expected a top WWE star to turn on Cody Rhdoes. As it finally happened after Bad Blood, a wrestling veteran now believes it came too late.
The top superstar in question is none other than Kevin Owens. The Prizefighter had a strong friendship with The American Nightmare. However, things started to change as the two battled for the Undisputed WWE Championship at Bash in Berlin. While Owens was vocal about being against Rhodes teaming with their former rival, Roman Reigns, against The Bloodline at Bad Blood, he teased turning on his friend several times. The former Universal Champion finally attacked Rhodes in the parking lot last night after Bad Blood, officially turning heel.
Speaking on the Gigantic Pop podcast, wrestling veteran Matt Morgan claimed WWE missed their mark on Owens' heel turn, stating that it does not make sense right now after The Rock's return and Roman Reigns' presence. The TNA legend warned the Stamford-based company that Rhodes having a storyline with Owens would drag The American Nightmare down.
"No, they missed, no, no, no, no, no, don't babyface this folks. They missed the mark. They had the mark three weeks ago when it would have been at its height, where it would have made sense, and it would have mattered. I don't want a butter-knife stabbing after a gunshot that we just had hit tonight with The Rock and Roman. No offense to KO, he's not on their level and it's gonna drag Cody down," he said. Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns defeated The Bloodline at WWE Bad Blood
Last night, Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns scored a victory over The Bloodline's Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu in the main event of Bad Blood. The match witnessed the return of Jimmy Uso, who took out Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa.
After the match, The Bloodline attacked The American Nightmare before Reigns and Jimmy rushed back to the ring to fend them off. As Rhodes and The Original Tribal Chief had a staredown afterwards, they were interrupted by the surprising return of The Rock. The Final Boss counted to three on his hand before making a cut-throat gesture, seemingly sending a message to the three superstars in the ring before leaving.
With The Rock's return, Reigns' interest in recapturing the Undisputed WWE Title, and Kevin Owens' betrayal of The American Nightmare, it would be interesting to see what is next for Rhodes.
