WWE has just signed an international star to a developmental contract, and the performer will start at NXT soon. However, the shocking signing has reportedly left multiple rival promotions furious.
Shawn Michaels officially welcomed Stephanie Vaquer to the NXT roster with a post on his X/Twitter account. The Heartbreak Kid is the creative figurehead of the developmental brand and has a big star on his hands in the form of Vaquer.
Before signing with WWE, Vaquer was part of CMLL and was even advertised to appear at Fantastica Mania 2024 in San Jose, California, on July 13. It was a collaboration between CMLL and NJPW, so both companies were pretty upset, according to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer.
"On Monday when she signed [with WWE], she told them [CMLL] that Tuesday, which was last night [July 9] in Guadalajara was her last night, and she wouldn't be coming to Arena Mexico on Friday. She wouldn't do any of the dates. She got dates all over the world. (...) The idea was to come to San Jose and drop the title, and she didn't do that. Last night, in her last night, she beat Tessa Blanchard. (...) CMLL was very upset over her because of what happened, and also, they had never been targeted in this way by WWE," Meltzer said.

The long-time wrestling journalist added:
"New Japan was very upset because when they first announced the show in San Jose, she was in the first batch of people announced, and they have been advertising her for months. It's kind of like their basic thing is, 'You've been advertised for months for this show in a championship match and then five days before the show, you pull out and you're the champion.'"
Stephanie Vaquer recently wrestled at Forbidden Door, losing her NJPW Strong Women's Championship to Mercedes Mone. AEW was reportedly interested in signing her as well before she agreed to join NXT.
Stephanie Vaquer will likely make a WWE appearance soon
According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, Stephanie Vaquer will likely make an appearance on WWE's Mexico tour over the weekend. The company will hold live events in Mexico City on July 13 and in Monterrey on July 14.
Vaquer began her career in Chile before making her name in Mexico with CMLL. She also spent some time in Japan wrestling in NJPW and Stardom. She's a former NJPW Strong Women's Champion and a former CMLL World Women's Champion.
In addition to Stephanie Vaquer, Giulia is expected to return from a wrist injury and wrestle at Marigold's July 13 show. Giulia and Vaquer had a match earlier this year in March for Stardom.
