Families are very common in pro wrestling. There are dozens of real-life families that have made waves in the world of professional wrestling. To name a few, the Anoa’i, DiBiases, Ortons, Funks, Guerreros, Rhodes, Windhams, Poffos, and of course, the McMahons have all been very famous families in the world of wrestling.
Among the greatest WWE families is also The Colon family. The family is a Puerto Rican wrestling family comprised of mainly six members. It all started with Carlitos Colon and then the legacy continued with his four children.
The Colon Family
Carles Colon Sr.
Carlitos Colon (real name - Carles Edwin Colon Gonzalez Sr.) is a Puerto Rican wrestler and promoter. He was born on July 18, 1948, in Santa Isabel, Puerto Rico. He mainly competed in Capitol Sports Promotion and then in the promotion he founded himself. He founded the World Wrestling Council in 1973 alongside Victor Jovica and Gorilla Monsoon. The promotion has been a mainstay for The Colon wrestling family for a long time.
He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2014 by his sons Eddie and Carly Colon and nephew Orlando Colon. He is only the third Puerto Rican after Pedro Morales and Johnny Rodz to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.
Carlito
Carlos Edwin Colon Coates Jr. was born on February 21, 1979, to Carles Colon Sr. and Nancy. He was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and is the oldest of four siblings. While he did not intend to be a wrestler in childhood, his great physical condition during his teenage prompted him to try for it once. He started working for the World Wrestling Council at the age of 20 and was signed by WWE’s Developmental territory Ohio Valley Wrestling in 2003.
Impressed by his work, he was called up to the main roster in about a year, where he defeated John Cena in his first-ever match winning the United States Championship. In his Monday Night RAW debut next year, Carlito followed his trend and won the Intercontinental Championship on the first night itself.
Carlito has had quite an eventful career in WWE and outside. He is perhaps the most recognizable name of The Colon family in the world. Carlito made his return to WWE in 2023 and is currently a member of the Latino World Order.
Eddie Colon
Edwin Carlos Colon Coates was born on December 21, 1982, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He is most popular by the name Primo Colon, the name he used while working in WWE. He is the younger brother of Carlito Colon and Stacy Colon. Despite being four years younger than Carlito, Eddie started working in WWC in 1999, the same time as Carlito.
He spent seven years in WWC before being signed by WWE in 2007. He teamed up with his brother Carlito in the later years of the 2000s. The two also defeated Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder to become the WWE Tag Team Champions. The Colons unified the WWE Tag Team Championship and the World Tag Team Championship at WrestleMania XXV, becoming the first team to hold the two belts simultaneously.
In 2010, his time with Carlito gradually ended and he started teaming up with his cousin Primo instead. Primo and Epico worked as a tag team in WWE for about ten years before moving back to WWC.
Orlando Colon
Orlando Tito Colon Nieves was born on March 24, 1982 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He graduated from Western Michigan Wrestling and also played Baseball during his time there. He is the nephew of Carlos Colon Sr. and the cousin of Carlito, Primo Colon, and Stacy Colon. He started working professionally in wrestling in around 2004 and worked outside the World Wrestling Council for about two years before joining the traditional family promotion in 2006.
He worked in his Uncle-owned promotion for five years before he was called by WWE in 2011. In WWE, he worked under the ring name Epico Colon and teamed up with his cousin Eddie Colon, who was working under the name Primo Colon. They teamed up together and also alongside El Torito.
Stacy Colon
Stacy Colon is the only daughter of Carles Colon and is the younger sister of Carlito and the older sister of Eddie Colon. She worked as a valet for the World Wrestling Council in the 2000s. During her time there, she also contested a handful of matches in her father’s promotion.
