Tongan

The Tongan family is a famous family in professional wrestling, consisting of two generations of wrestlers. It began from Tonga ‘Uliʻuli Fifita, also known as Haku, and continues through his sons and nephews, Tama Tonga, Tonga Loa, Bad Luck Fale, and Hikuleo. The family is closely connected to the Samoan wrestling family and Haku is also considered an uncle by The Rock. Therefore, many mistake the Tongan family to be a part of the Anoa’i family. Nonetheless, the two continue to work closely and two members of the family are a part of Solo Sikoa’s Bloodline as of November 2024.

Haku

Haku, also known as Meng, born on February 10, 1959, is a legendary figure in professional wrestling. He hails from the Kingdom of Tonga and began his career in the 1980s, where he quickly gained recognition in the WWF (now WWE) as a member of the tag team The Islanders. His reputation for being one of the toughest wrestlers in the industry earned him respect and admiration from peers and fans alike.

His career spanned multiple promotions, including WCW and NJPW. Beyond his wrestling prowess, Haku is also known for his familial ties; he is the father of several wrestling stars, including Tama Tonga and Tanga Loa. His legacy continues through his sons, who have embraced the wrestling tradition he helped establish.

Tama Tonga

Tama Tonga, born on October 15, 1982, is a Tongan-American professional wrestler signed to WWE as of November 2024. He gained fame as a key member of the Bullet Club in NJPW, co-founding the faction that revolutionized modern wrestling outside the WWE. Throughout his career, Tama has achieved significant success alongside his brother Tanga Loa as part of the Guerrillas of Destiny (G.O.D.), winning multiple IWGP Tag Team Championships. After a successful tenure in NJPW from 2010 to 2024, Tama made headlines with his debut in WWE as part of The Bloodline faction. Tama Tonga and his younger brother Hikuelo are adopted sons of Haku, who was originally their maternal uncle.

Tonga Loa

Tonga Loa is the real son of Haku. He was born on May 7, 1983, in Honolulu, Hawaii, and graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso. He played football during his early years before switching permanently to professional wrestling. He was a member of the WWE roster for five years from 2009 to 2014 where he wrestled under the name Camacho. Eventually, he joined TNA and then NJPW, where he was a member of the Guerrillas of Destiny tag team alongside his brother Tama Tonga. In 2024, he made his return to WWE as a member of The Bloodline.

Hikuleo

Hikuleo is the real brother of Tama Tonga, the adoptive son of Haku, and the cousin and adopted brother of Tonga Loa. He is the youngest of all these wrestling brothers and was born on February 7, 1991. He made his professional wrestling debut in 2016 with New Japan Pro Wrestling, joining his other brothers. He spent eight years there and was a member of both the Bullet Club and Guerrillas of Destiny. There, Hikuleo won the Strong Openweight Championship, Strong Openweight Tag Team Championship, and the IWGP Tag Team Championship. In 2024, it was reported that Hikuelo had signed to WWE.

Bad Luck Fale

Bad Luck Fale was born on March 4, 1982, in Auckland, New Zealand. He is the cousin of Tama Tonga and Hikuleo. Fale made his mark in NJPW as a founding member of the Bullet Club alongside Tama Tonga and others. Standing at 1.93 m (6 ft 4 in) and weighing 156 kg (344 lb), Bad Luck Fale commands an imposing presence inside the squared circle. He made his pro-wrestling debut back in 2010 in New Japan Pro Wrestling and has been associated with the Company ever since.

The Tongan Family Roots

The roots of the Tongan Family begin from Haku. He was born in the Kingdom of Tonga, hence the name Tongan. It is an island country in Polynesia, which is a part of the continent Oceania. He spent his childhood there and attended the Tonga College. In 1974, at the age of 15, Haku moved to Japan and soon began training for professional wrestling. His time in Japan might have been a huge reason for his sons to spend their careers with NJPW. However, Haku was also known for his performances in the biggest US promotions, and the next generation of the Tongan family is following suit there.
