The Indian Men’s Doubles pairing of Manu Attri and Sumeeth Reddy were knocked out of the Russian Open on Saturday after they lost their semifinal to the home pairing of Vladimir Ivanov and Ivan Sozonov 21-19 7-21 16-21 in 43 minutes on Saturday.
The opening game proved to be absolute-nail-biter as both pairs kept pegging one another back at different intervals, but the decisive moment in the match happened at the 19-19 mark, when Attri and Reddy first sealed the critical match point opportunity and then sealed the game in the next chance available to close the game 21-19.
The second game proved to be an extremely one-sided affair, that went in favour of Ivanov and Sozonov, as they raced away to an early 9-0 lead and the further continued their domination to eventually win the game 21-7.
The third and deciding game began on a keen note, but shifted in favour of the Russians at the 9-9 mark, when they first won 4 points at stretch to 13-9 up and then won 4 out of the next 5 points to go 17-10 up and put severe pressure on their opponents. Those streak of points ensured that Attri and Reddy had a big task ahead of them to make a comeback and they eventually fell short, losing 21-16 and bowing out of the competition.
