Aaron James Judge, nicknamed, “Baj” has been serving as the captain of the New York Yankees since the 2023 season. He was chosen for the role in December 2022. A centerfielder by position, he hails from Linden, California, United States. He was originally drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the 31st round of the 2010 MLB Draft from Linden High School. However, he declined to sign up and committed to California State University, Fresno. There, he was a college baseball player for the Fresno State Bulldogs.
The New York Yankees drafted Aaron Judge with the #32nd overall pick in the 2013 MLB Draft and he debuted with the team on August 13, 2016. Since then, he has been a six-time MLB All-Star player and has earned six AL All-Star awards as of 2024. Clark Calvin Griffith served as the first captain of the New York Yankees, then known as the New York Highlanders from 1903 to 1905. He also served as an on-field manager for the team during the same time.
Kid Elberfeld (1906 to 1908)
Norman Elberfeld, also known as “Kid Elberfeld” served as the second captain of the New York Yankees from 1906 to 1908. The team was known as the New York Highlanders during his time.
Willie Keeler (1909)

Roger Peckinpaugh (1914 to 1921)

The late Thurman Munson was chosen as the next captain of the New York Yankees in 1976 after the team was without a captain for the previous thirty-seven years. He stayed as the team captain until he tragically passed away in a plane crash in 1979.
