The New York Yankees, often called, “The Bronx Bombers”, has been one of the most popular teams in Major League Baseball (MLB). The team is also notable for being the most successful in the league having won twenty-seven World Series titles as of 2024. They have also gone on to forty-one American League (AL) titles and twenty-one American League East Division titles as of 2024.

The New York Yankees ranked #4th in the AL East Division in the 2023 MLB season. Throughout the season, they achieved a record of 82-80-0. Notably, their #1 pitcher was Gerrit Cole with 222 strikeouts and their #1 batter was Kyle Higashioka with 10 home runs throughout the season. The New York Yankees have built strong rivalries with the Boston Red Sox and their National League (NL) counterpart, the New York Mets over the years. They also have been using the Yankee Stadium, sometimes referred to as the Yankee Stadium II as their home ground since 2009.

Aaron James Judge, nicknamed, “Baj” has been serving as the captain of the New York Yankees since the 2023 season. He was chosen for the role in December 2022. A centerfielder by position, he hails from Linden, California, United States. He was originally drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the 31st round of the 2010 MLB Draft from Linden High School. However, he declined to sign up and committed to California State University, Fresno. There, he was a college baseball player for the Fresno State Bulldogs.

The New York Yankees drafted Aaron Judge with the #32nd overall pick in the 2013 MLB Draft and he debuted with the team on August 13, 2016. Since then, he has been a six-time MLB All-Star player and has earned six AL All-Star awards as of 2024. His other notable accomplishments include three AL Silver Slugger Awards, the AL MVP award, the AL Hank Aaron Award, the AL Roberto Clemente Award, the MLB Player’s Choice AL Outstanding Player Award, and others.

Norman Elberfeld, also known as “Kid Elberfeld” served as the second captain of the New York Yankees from 1906 to 1908. The team was known as the New York Highlanders during his time.

Rollie Zeider served as the sixth captain of the New York Yankees for the remainder of the 2013 season. He played 50 games for the team.

Roger Peckinpaugh (1914 to 1921)

Roger Peckinpaugh

Roger Peckinpaugh served as the captain of the New York Yankees from 1914 to 1921. He was also the team manager in 1914.

Babe Ruth (1922)

Babe Ruth, nicknamed, “The Bambino”, was the captain of the New York Yankees for about two months in 1922. However, he was more notable for his 659 home runs with the team and winning four World Series titles with the team.

Lou Gehrig (1935 to 1939)

The next captain of the New York Yankees was Lou Gehrig and he served from 1935 to 1939. Nicknamed “The Iron Horse”, he held the record for most consecutive games with 2,130 games in his career, until it was broken by Cal Ripken in 1995. He was notable for 493 home runs in seventeen seasons and his #4 jersey was the first one to be retired by the team. He retired in 1939 due to ALS.

Ron Guidry (1986 to 1989)

Ron Guidry was the captain of the New York Yankees from 1986 to 1989. He shared captaincy of the team with Willie Randolph. Nicknamed “Gator”, Ron Guidry won the World Series title with the team twice in 1977 and 1978. He also won the AL Cy Young Award in 1978. He stayed as the team captain until he retired in 1989.

Don Mattingly (1991 to 1995)
