One of the biggest stars left in this year's free agency is All-Star Alex Bregman. The Houston Astros stalwart was reportedly enthusiastic to stay in Houston, but the Astros couldn't give him the terms that salary he asked for.

In a report by MLB's Chicago-based insider Bruce Levine, NL Central's Chicago Cubs are seemingly keen in offering the hot corner star a three-year deal. It was similar to what the organization offered former Dodgers star Cody Bellinger when he signed a three-year deal but opted out before it got over.

"For Bregman, the framework of a potential deal with the Cubs could look like a three-year contract with opt-outs after each of the first two seasons," said Levine.

The biggest challenge for the Cubbies, though, is that Alex Bregman is represented by Scott Boras. The super agent is known for negotiating not only big-money deals but also long-terms ones for his clients.

"Recently, powerful agent Scott Boras, who represents Bregman, had casual discussions with the Cubs, who aren’t interested in a long-term contract," said Levine. "As third baseman Alex Bregman’s free agency continues with his destination unknown, there could be a union with the Cubs down the road if he’s willing to accept a shorter-term contract."

Red Sox manager Alex Cora willing to have Alex Bregman reunon

Another strong candidate in the Alex Bregman sweepstakes are the Boston Red Sox. In an interview with NESN, club skipper Alex Cora talked about a possible reunion with the Gold Glover.

"He's a good hitter. He has intangibles, we all know that. He's a winner. We clinched the title in 2017. He put the controversies of the past behind him and put the Astros on his back. He's been amazing," Cora said.
"Rafael Devers is our third baseman. I always envisioned Alex as a Gold Glover 2nd baseman."

Cora had Bregman as his player during the Houston Astros' infamous World Series title victory in 2017. If and when he signs for Boston, Cora assured fans that club cornerstone Rafael Devers would remain in third while the Gold Glover Bregman will be manning the second base position.
