Alex Bregman and Pete Alonso are yet to find a team ahead of the 2025 MLB season. The former has signified a move away from Houston where he made his mark as a club stalwart. The latter's contract, on the other hand, is in limbo as he reportedly discusses a new deal with the New York Mets.

In a recent episode of the "Rico Brogna podcast" by Evan Roberts on WFAN, the sportscaster discussed Bregman's chances of a move to Queens this offseason.

"Alex Bregman is waiting on the same thing Pete Alonso is waiting on," said Roberts. "They both are waiting on the years. I don't think it's about the average annual salary," he added. (13:52-14:04).

Roberts further shared that Mets executive David Stearns is unwilling to hand out a long-term contract that can extend for up to seven years due to Bregman's age.

"Clearly David Stearns doesn't want to give long-term deals to guys in their 30s—Alex Bregman is an example of that."

Meanwhile, the analyst also argued the situation that Mets star Pete Alonso's supposed hold up in terms of re-signing due to the desired number of years on his new contract compared to Bregman's request.

"If Alex Bregman is insisting on a six or seven-year contract, and that is likely the hold up from him signing in Boston or Detroit—are they really going to give in to Bregman while they are holding on Pete Alonso's proposed four or five-year deal?"

The pundit then capped off his argument by saying that he doesn't believe Bregman's move will come to fruition due to his contract demands.

"I have a tough time believing that he will move to the Mets. There's a reason why I've never bought the Bregman stuff."

Alex Bregman being pursued by AL contenders

Per a recent report by KPRC-TV anchor Ari Alexander, two-time All-Star Alex Bregman's biggest suitors have been narrowed down to three American League squads.

As shared by the media personality, the hot corner star is being courted by the Detroit Tigers, Boston Red Sox and the Toronto Blue Jays.

Realistically, Bregman fits better with the Blue Jays and Tigers. An infield consisting of Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Andres Gimenez, Bo Bichette and Bregman would be the dream scenario for Jays fans. The Tigers meanwhile, have Jace Jung manning the hot corner so Bregman's addition would certainly be welcomed given his offensive and defensive capabilities.

On the other hand, it would be intriguing if the Red Sox land the star third baseman as the position is currently being held by franchise cornerstone Rafael Devers.
