American country musician Ingrid Andress sang the national anthem ahead of the MLB 2024 Home Run Derby contest. However, her rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner" missed several high notes and also mismatched the pace.
Her performance was poorly received among netizens who flocked to the internet to share their views. Some even compared it to Fergie's infamous singing at the 2018 NBA All-Star game.
Even on the field, the reaction of some players suggested the same. Philadelphia Phillies slugger Alec Bohm's smirk upon hearing Andress is also going viral on the internet. It is in the same space as LeBron James, Draymond Green and Stephen Curry's reaction to Fergie.
On the same day as her performance, Andress announced via Instagram the release of her new single "Colorado 9" on July 24.
"Greetings to everyone that has a pulse," she wrote. "I truly love you all so much. I’ve been absent for a minute, but I’m so stoked to announce that my new single “Colorado 9” comes out on July 24th, pre-save it now (link in bio)."
Born in Southfield, Michigan on September 21, 1991, Andress is a four-time Grammy nominee in the following categories:
- Best New Artist (2021)
- Best Country Song (2021)
- Best Country Album (2021)
- Best Country Duo/Group Performance (2023)
However, she fell short of adding one to her cabinet filled with two BMI Country Awards, three MusicRow Awards and one Nashville Songwriter Award.
Dodgers star Teoscar Hernandez won the 2024 MLB Home Run Derby
The eight-slugger fest started with Alec Bohm leading off with 21 home runs, followed by Jose Ramirez's 21, Bobby Witt Jr.'s 20, Teoscar Hernandez's 19, Adolis Garcia's 18, Marcell Ozuna's 16, Pete Alonso's 12 and Gunnar Henderson's 11.
In the semifinals, Witt Jr. overcame Ramirez to reach the final round. Meanwhile, Bohm and Hernandez each hit 14; but in the swing, Hernandez triumphed to meet the Royals star in the finals.
In the finals, the Dodgers star clubbed 14 home runs—one over Witt Jr.'s 13—to win the Home Run Derby for the first time.
