The present manager for the Philadelphia Phillies is Robert Lewis Thomson or Rob Thomson. Nicknamed “Topper”, he is a former coach for the New York Yankees as well as the Philadelphia Phillies. Prior to his coaching career, Thomson also played baseball as a catcher mainly in the minor leagues for the Detroit Tigers. He was also a member of Team Canada at the 1984 Summer Olympics.
After retiring as a player, Rob Thomson worked for and coached the New York Yankees from 1990-2017. He served as the third base coach and gradually also worked as first base coach and bench coach. From 2018-2022, he was the bench coach for the Philadelphia Phillies. In October 2022, he was promoted to the manager of the team.
