Tommy Edman’s Early Life
In 2013, Edman received his diploma from La Jolla Country Day School in San Diego, California, and was named to the All-Academic Team. He played collegiate baseball for the Stanford Cardinals while attending Stanford University. Following his first season, he was awarded an All-Star and the Newport Gulls' top defensive player in the New England Collegiate League. In 2015, following his sophomore year, he batted for the Yarmouth–Dennis Red Sox of the Cape Cod Baseball League in collegiate summer baseball .304, was selected as the East Division All-Star team's starting second baseman, and aided the Red Sox in winning the league title.
In 2016, Edman batted and started all of the games as a junior shortstop.286 with 24 RBIs, scoring more than 35 runs, hitting 61, securing four triples, and leading Stanford in stolen bases in 54 games to secure a berth on the Pac-12 Conference first team. The St. Louis Cardinals selected him in the sixth round of the 2016 Major League Baseball Draught, following his junior year.
