Bennedict Mathurin is a professional basketball player currently playing the small forward or the shooting guard position for the Indiana Pacers. He was drafted by the Pacers in the first round of the 2022 draft as the 6th overall pick. Since joining the league, Mathurin has been nothing short of sensational. As a rookie he averaged 16.7 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.5 assists on 43.4 percent from the field and 32.3 percent from beyond the arc.

Mathurin is a very good scorer as he can pull-up from three, knock down a mid-range shot, as well as finish in the paint. He can also knockdown free throws effortlessly shooting at an efficient 82.4 percent. Mathurin is a dead-eye shooter who isn't fazed by the closing defenders and knocks down tough shots over them. At times, he can force a difficult shot but has a knack for making them, so the coach has no problems with his shot selection. He is also a rim punisher who can get inside the paint using his body to finish over weaker defenders.

There is no doubt that Mathurin believes in himself after he made a comment last season which shook the NBA fans. Prior to his NBA draft, Mathurin talked to the Washington Post and said “He (Lebron James) is going to have to show me he is better than me.” Mathurin had a particular goal in his mind and it was to play against Lebron James. This was in no way a disrespect to James. Mathurin is just a very confident player and continued by saying “It’s about me being confident. I think he’s the best player to ever play the game. … But me just coming into the league, I won’t say anybody’s better than me. That’s me being confident. I know who LeBron James is. There’s no (other) LeBron James, there won’t be again.”

This season Tyrese Haliburton has already stepped up his game to another level and is looking like a superstar in the making. If the Pacers want to compete for a title, Mathurin is the second piece they should focus on in order to start making some noise in the Eastern Conference.

His French and Creole speaking skills come from him being of Haitian descent. Meanwhile he grew up in Canada so English was a no-brainer but Spanish came along because he lived in Mexico city previously.

Mathurin is a rising star in the NBA and looked impressive last season. In the 2023-2024 season, he is currently averaging 12.9 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game on 43.1 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from three. While his numbers have declined from last season, it is only the beginning of a long NBA schedule. He will most certainly bump it up as the season progresses.
