Derrick Rose is an American professional basketball player who played for the Memphis Grizzlies in the NBA. He is a former MVP of the league and one of the first point guards who played way above the rim, in the NBA. It looked like he was going to dominate the league and win multiple championships for the Bulls but an ACL tear ended the hope. On April 28 2012, the Bulls were playing the 76ers in the NBA playoffs. There was a minute left and that is when Rose attempted a hop-step layup but when he landed, he tore his ACL. Ever since that injury, he has never been the same. The injury seemed to take the spark out of him and seldom did we see Rose getting back to that form.
Rose was frequently injured throughout most of his career and his injuries took away what looked like a promising young career. Since then, he has developed other ways of scoring and contributing to a team. He does not rely on his athleticism anymore and rather uses jump shots and passes to help the offense. He was drafted by the Chicago Bulls as the number one overall pick in the 2008 NBA draft.
Derrick Rose’s All-Star Years
Rose is a three-time all-star and is a former league MVP. He averaged 20.8 points in the 2009-2010 regular season, 25.0 points in the 2010-2011 season, and 21.8 points in the 2011-2012 season. He won the Most Valuable Player award in the 2011-12 season where he beat Dwight Howard and Lebron James in MVP votes that year. He was also the 2009 NBA Rookie of the Year.
During these three All-Star seasons, Rose was arguably the best point guard in the league and led the Chicago Bulls deep into the playoffs every single year. During the 2020-2021 NBA playoffs, he averaged 19.4 points for the New York Knicks.
