GG Jackson

Gregory “GG” Jackson II is an American basketball player currently playing for the Memphis Grizzlies. Born on December 17, 2004, Jackson II is the youngest player in the NBA in the ongoing 2023/24 season.

Hailing from Columbia, South Carolina, Jackson II emerged as a five-star recruit during his time at University of Southern Carolina. He was drafted with the 45th overall pick in by the Memphis Grizzlies in 2023, who subsequently signed him to a two-way deal.

Jackson II got a chance to impress on the Grizzlies main roster after multiple players have been out injured. Seizing this moment, he made a significant impact. On January 13, 2024, in a breakout game against the Knicks, GG Jackson played 27 minutes, scoring 20 points on 9/14 shooting, along with four rebounds and five assists.

A couple of days later on January 15, 2024, in a win against the Warriors, Jackson II had a remarkable 6/9 shooting night, including five 3-pointers. He ended up scoring 23 points, grabbed five rebounds, and contributed six assists.

Personal Life

GG Jackson grew up in Columbia, South Carolina, and attended Ridge View High School. His dad, Gregory Jackson, played high school football as a defensive end, while his mom, LaKeysha Alston, was a track athlete during her school days.

GG Jackson’s parents are always there, courtside, cheering for their son in every game. He also has an older sister named Nyla, who is playing basketball at the University of South Carolina. As a five-star recruit coming out of high school, GG Jackson initially committed to play at North Carolina (UNC), but later changed his decision, becoming the first player to do so since J.R. Smith in 2003. Ultimately, Jackson reclassified to the class of 2022 and enrolled at the University of South Carolina.
