The men's basketball team, the Baylor Bears of Baylor University, participates in the Big 12 Conference. Ferrell Center served as the team's home arena from 1998 until 2023. The Foster Pavilion is the home arena for Baylor, which is led by coach Scott Drew. In addition to being the football coach, Luther Burleson coached Baylor's inaugural basketball team in 1907.

The 82nd tournament started in March 2021, with games being played at various locations throughout the state of Indiana. It ended on April 5, with the Baylor Bears winning their first-ever championship game at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, defeating the Gonzaga Bulldogs, who had been undefeated, 86-70.

In 2021, Scott Drew guided Baylor to its first national championship and its first Big 12 title in school history, establishing the biggest rebuild in collegiate basketball history. In 2023–24, Scott Drew will begin his 21st season as the Big 12's longest-tenured head coach. In his first 20 years, he has won 420 games, a school record, with a 29–11 record in the postseason since 2009.

In the previous 16 seasons, Baylor has been led by Drew to 12 NCAA Tournament appearances, five Sweet 16 berths, three appearances to the Elite Eight, the 2021 National Championship, and the program's first national ranking of No. 1 in 2017.

Moreover, a 23-game winning streak in 2019–20 that set a record for the Big 12 Conference, a five-week run at No. 1 in 2020, an entire season ranking in the top three in the country in 2021, and another five-week run at No. 1 in 2022 are all credited to Drew.

In 2024-25, Jared Nuness will begin his 15th year as a member of the Baylor basketball staff and his second as an assistant coach. He spent his first two years on Baylor's staff as the director of video operations until being promoted to that position ahead of the 2017–18 season. He had previously served for five years as the director of player personnel.
