Bill Self is an American basketball coach and also former basketball player. He has been serving as the head men's basketball coach at University of Kansas since 2003. Before joining Kansas, Bill served as the head coach of the Illinois college men's basketball team from 2000 to 2003. Throughout his career, he has been a head coach for various men's basketball teams.
Self's basketball journey began during his college years as a player at Oklahoma State University from 1981 to 1985. Throughout his coaching career, Bill has received several awards and recognition for his coaching like, being named the AP College Coach of the Year twice, in 2009 and 2016 and has also received the NABC Coach of the Year award in 2016, as well as the Naismith College Coach of the Year in 2012.
Further, he has also received the USBWA District Coach of the Year in 2022, the Adolph Rupp Cup in 2012, and the Big 12 Coach of the Year six times, in 2006, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2017, and 2018.
