Jan Jensen is an American college basketball coach who was announced as the new head coach of the Iowa Hawkeyes women’s basketball team. This will be her first NCAA head coaching role after spending the last 24 years of her life working as an assistant head coach under Lisa Bluder. Jensen was a celebrated collegiate athlete who played basketball for the Drake Bulldogs. During her senior year, Bluder became the head coach at Iowa and Jensen led the nation with 29.6 points per game.
Jensen's coaching career started at her alma mater under Bluder after a brief stint in the professional ranks in Europe. Jensen served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Drake for eight seasons and helped the program reach the MVC tournament eight times. Following Bluder’s decision to join the Iowa program, Jensen was offered the head coaching role at Drake but she chose to join Iowa as part of Bluder’s coaching staff. Since 2004, Jensen served as Iowa's recruiting coordinator and an associate head coach. She guided Iowa to 22 postseason appearances and five Big Ten Tournament Championships. In 2024, she signed a five-year contract with the Hawkeyes announcing her 25th season and first year as head coach of the women’s basketball program.
