T20 World Cup 2014 semi final 1 - Sri Lanka vs West Indies
In the first semi-finals of the 2014 T20 World Cup, Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first. Kusal Perera gave them a fiery start whilst Tillakaratne Dilshan steered the innings and played the anchor role. Perera hit two boundaries and sixes in his innings before getting out to Santokie for 26 runs in the fourth over. Then in quick succession, Jayawardene and Sangakkara fell prey to West Indian’s fabulous fielding and bowling. With the help of Thiramanne and Mathews, Sri Lanka put up a competitive total of 160 runs.
West Indies began their chase scintillatingly, scoring 16 runs off the very first over. But the Sri Lankan pacers pulled it back from the second over onwards. After finding no boundaries for three overs, the Sri Lankan captain, Lasith Malinga, took down Chris Gayle in the fifth over. In the same over, Malinga dismissed the remaining opener as well. Marlon Samuels and Dwayne Bravo try to build an innings, but after making 30 runs, Bravo gets out in the 14th over. After 13.5 overs were bowled of the West Indian innings, play was halted due to rain. The storm kept on blowing, which resulted in the use of the D/L method to determine the game’s winner. Post implementations of the method, Sri Lanka were declared as the winners of the match. They won the game by 27 runs.

T20 World Cup 2014 semi-final 2 - India vs South Africa
South Africa won the toss and elected to bat first in the match. After hitting a four off Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s bowling in the third ball of the match, Quinton de Kock gets out while trying to play a drive shot. Amla and Plessis build a slow partnership but Ashwin puts a brake to their runs by uprooting the stumps of Amla.
By the tenth over, South Africa had reached only 66 runs. Duminy and Plessis start scoring runs quickly but yet again, Ashwin breaks their partnership by taking down Plessis. At the end, South Africa put up a total of 172 runs with Miller’s late power hitting.
Indian openers gave the team a solid start, scoring 33 runs off the first three overs. Rohit Sharma’s wicket in the fourth over didn’t result in India losing momentum. Virat Kohli adapted and played his innings according to the situation. With the help of Suresh Raina’s hitting in the end, India won the match with four balls and six wickets to spare.
