Lucknow Super Giants and Rajasthan Royals had a good outing in the former’s maiden edition of the IPL. While LSG ended up at the 3rd spot after losing in the eliminator, Rajasthan Royals made it to the final for the second time since their inaugural title triumph in 2008. Sadly, they finished as runner-ups in the championship with another debutant Gujarat Titans winning the trophy in their very first attempt.
They squared off against one another in their very first encounter in the 20th match of the 2022 IPL which happened in Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. After winning the toss, KL Rahul put RR into bat, and a stylish knock of 59* (36) from Shimron Hetmyer saw his side post a score of 165-6, apparently not good enough on the batting-friendly pitch. However, Rajasthan’s bowlers came out strong and castled the Lucknow line-up as leggie Yuzvendra Chahal bagged 4 wickets. Alongside him, with assistance from Boult with a couple and a wicket each from Krishna, and Sen respectively pulled things in RR’s corner. With 24 to get from the final two, Marcus Stoinis went after the bowling and almost steered his side to victory but Sen kept his nerves and RR managed to win by a tiny 3-run margin.
In their latest encounter, the Lucknow Super Giants turned things around and defeated the Rajasthan Royals for the very first time, by a margin of 10 runs, thanks to all-rounder Marcus Stoinis’ heroics with the bat and the ball, scoring 21 (16) and picking up figures of 2/28 in 4 overs.
Lucknow Super Giants and Rajasthan Royals will go head-on in the 4th fixture of IPL 2024 which will be played on 24th March in Jaipur.
