Virat Kohli has an impeccable captaincy record in Test cricket. He has captained India in 68 Test matches and won 40 of them, becoming the most successful Indian Test captain. Virat has been the captain for 24 Test series, won 18 of them, and has not lost a single series at home. Under his captaincy, India defeated Australia in a Test series for the first time in Australia. He also led India into the finals of the World Test Championship. In his tenure of seven years as the Test captain, Kohli holds the record for scoring the most number of double centuries and for being the highest run-getter as an Indian Test captain.

Virat Kohli has captained the Indian side in 95 ODI matches and has won 65 of them. He has scored 21 centuries as an ODI captain, the second highest number of ODI centuries as a captain, only behind Ricky Ponting’s tally of 22 international centuries.

Virat has the highest ODI batting average as a captain, with an average of over 72. In the 2019 Cricket World Cup, India got knocked out in the semi-finals against New Zealand and failed to lead India to a 3rd World Cup Trophy.

Virat Kohli has captained the Indian T20I side for 50 matches and has successfully led his team to a victory in 30 of them. He has scored the most T20I runs as an Indian captain and the fourth highest all over the world, with 1570 runs scored.

He is the world's fourth most successful T20I captain and the second most successful in India. In the 2021 T20 Cricket World Cup, India got eliminated in the Super 12 stage, and post this, Virat relinquished his captaincy.
