2024 Black Desert Championship: venue, field and more
The Black Desert Championship will be played at the Black Desert Resort Golf Course, designed by Phil Smith and Tom Weiskopf. It is a brand new course, having just been completed in May 2023.
The course measures 7,371 yards and is par 71. In addition to the Black Desert Championship, it is scheduled to host an LPGA Tour event in 2025.
Chris Kirk, ranked 41st in the world, will be the top-ranked golfer in the field. Eighteen other members of the top 100 will also be in attendance, including Major champion Lucas Glover and multiple PGA Tour winners Nick Taylor, Erik van Rooyen and Kurt Kitayama.
The field will also feature a long list of players with ties to the state of Utah in one way or another. Among them is Major champion Mike Weir, captain of the International team that recently competed in the Presidents Cup. Weir has lived in Salt Lake City, Utah, for many years.
The PGA Tour has not returned to Utah since 1963, when the Utah Open was played as part of the U.S. based Tour. The tournament has continued since then, but as part of the local circuit.
The Utah Open was part of the PGA Tour calendar on several occasions, most notably in the 1940s. Notable winners of the tournament include Lloyd Mangrum (1948), who had won the US Open two years earlier.
