The 2024 Open Championship, the final Major of the season, will be played at Royal Troon Golf Club in Scotland beginning Thursday, July 18. The field for the event was announced on Monday, and all eyes are on the heavy favorites.

Scottie Scheffler and Collin Morikawa lead The Open Championship power rankings, according to an analysis by renowned forecaster Rob Bolton. The analysis takes into account the players' recent performances, as well as their course work and Royal Troon-like weather conditions.

Let's take a look at the players leading the 2024 Open Championship power rankings.

2024 Open Championship power rankings

The Open Championship Power Rankings feature players who have performed exceptionally well during the current season:

#1 Scottie Scheffler

Scottie Scheffler has held the World No. 1 ranking since mid-2023, and has significantly increased his lead over the number two-ranked player in 2024. Scheffler has won no less than six tournaments during the season.

The quality of the tournaments Scheffler has won makes his results even more impressive. The Texan (born in New Jersey) has won one Major (The Masters), The Players (considered the 5th Major) and four signature events (Arnold Palmer Invitational, RBC Heritage, The Memorial, The Travelers).

Scheffler also has two other runner-up finishes (Houston Open, Charles Schwab Challenge) and five other top-10s. His worst finish of the year has been T41 at the U.S. Open.

#2 Collin Morikawa

Collin Morikawa has had a solid 2024 season, although he has yet to win. He has made 15 cuts in 17 tournaments, and his best finish is a tie for second at the Memorial Tournament.

Morikawa has six other top 10 finishes. His performance in the Majors has been remarkable, as he finished third at the Masters, fourth at the PGA Championship and T14 at the US Open.

He also knows what it is like to win the Open Championship. He will lift the Claret Jug at Royal St George's Golf Club in 2021.

#3 Rory McIlroy

Rory McIlroy is another former champion of the Open Championship, having won it in 2014, playing at Royal Liverpool Golf Club. McIlroy also has had an excellent season in 2024 so far, with two victories on the PGA Tour and one on the DP World Tour.

On the American circuit, he has six top-10 finishes (including his two victories). He recently came close to winning the US Open, where he finished second, one stroke behind Bryson DeChambeau.

#4 Xander Schauffele

Xander Schauffele won his first Major the season (PGA Championship), which allowed him to climb to No. 3 in the world. Schauffele also has 10 other top-10 finishes, including two runner-up finishes (The Players and Wells Fargo Championship).

#5 Jon Rahm

Jon Rahm hasn't won in 2024 so far, but his LIV Golf performance includes 10 top 10s in as many events. His best finish has been a tie for third, which he has achieved three times.

Rahm's low point has been at the Majors, as he finished T45 at the Masters, was cut at the PGA Championship and he missed the U.S. Open due to injury.

However, Rahm's Open Championship career includes a second-place finish just last season (2023) and a third-place finish in 2021.
