The next stop on the 2024 world golf calendar is the US Open, the third major of the season, and the eyes of all fans are already fixed on the Pinehurst Resort, the venue of the event. The pre-tournament favorites are well-defined, but several other players could surprise.

Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, and Rory McIlroy lead all forecasts as the players with the best chances to win the 2024 US Open. However, one should not lose sight of other players with options for a good performance.

The 2024 US Open will tee off on Thursday, June 13 at Pinehurst Resort, Course No. 2. The field consists of 156 players. Here are seven players to keep an eye on:

#1 Hideki Matsuyama

2021 Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama is +4,500 in terms of title chances according to ESPN BET. The Japanese comes in after finishing T8 at the Memorial Tournament and ranked 14th in the world.

Matsuyama has one win (Genesis Invitational) and three other top 10s in 12 tournaments played on the PGA Tour during 2024. The 32-year-old finished T38 at the Masters and T35 at the PGA Championship.


#2 Sahith Theegala

Sahith Theegala (+5,500) has had a 2024 season of 16 tournaments played on the PGA Tour, with 13 cuts made and five Top 10s, including two second-place finishes. He is ranked 11th in the world rankings, finished T45 at the Masters, and T12 at the PGA Championship.


#3 Shane Lowry

Shane Lowry (+6,000) already knows what it's like to win a major (The Open, 2019). During 2024 he has played 13 events (12 cuts passed) with one win (Zurich Classic of New Orleans) and three other Top 10s. Finished T43 at the Masters and T6 at the PGA Championship.


#4 Tom Kim

Tom Kim (+6,000) is one of the youngest players in the field (21 years old) but already has three PGA Tour victories. During 2024 he has made 14 cuts in 16 tournaments, with one Top 10s. He finished T30 at the Masters and T26 at the PGA Championship.


#5 Tony Finau

Tony Finau (+6,000) is currently one of the highest-profile players on the PGA Tour yet to win a major. In 2024 he finished T55 at the Masters and T18 at the PGA Championship.

Finau has played 15 events during the season, with 14 cuts made and three top 10s, including a second-place finish.


#6 Dustin Johnson

Dustin Johnson (+9,000) already knows what it's like to win the US Open, as he took the title in 2016. During the current season, he has played eight events at LIV Golf, with one win and two other Top 10s. He missed the cut at the Masters and finished T43 at the PGA Championship.


#7 Dean Burmester

Dean Burmester (+11,000) has played eight LIV Golf events during the current season, with one win and two other Top 10s. In addition, he won two events to start the DP World Tour season.

Burmester did not play in the Masters Tournament and finished T12 at the PGA Championship.
