This weekend is the DP World Tour Championship, which concludes the 2024 season. When the 2025 season begins, it will not follow the same exact format the prior one did. There are a few changes being made to the schedule for next year, a few of which are fairly unexpected.
Golf as a whole has changed recently, with some adjustments being driven by LIV Golf's arrival. The European Tour isn't lightening the load, however. In fact, it is increasing the total number of events to 46, which even exceeds the total number of FedExCup events on the PGA Tour's schedule (36). The tour will also visit 26 countries across the season.
3 surprising new things in DP World Tour 2025 schedule
3) Three swings, six sections
The 2025 schedule will be split into six distinct sections. The Global Swings will run from November 21st to December 22nd to kick off the new season. The International Swing will follow from January 10th to March 9th. From March 6th to April 27th, the Asian Swing will occur. The European Swing follows after, beginning on May 8th and ending on July 6th.
The Closing Swing will run from July 10th to August 17th and the newly titled "Back Nine" will take place from September 21st to October 26th. The playoffs, which include the DPWT Championship and the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, will take place from November 6 to 16. The playoffs, back nine, and all regional swings make up the three pieces of the schedule.
2) Reworked order
The order of tournaments will be very different next season. For example, the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship will come earlier in the season rather than toward the end. Others have been shuffled around for next year as well, including the Volvo China Open. Several tournaments, including the Majors, are not moving at all, but the DP World Tour will not have the same order as 2024.
1) Losing two big tournaments
The schedule has mostly the same events on it, but there are a few shocking omissions. In 2025, the DP World Tour will not play the European Open and Andalucia Masters. These have been two of the most prominent events on tour. The Turkish Open and Austrian Open were not played in 2024 but will take the two open spots on the schedule. It's unclear if this is strictly about 2025 or if it will be this way in 2026 and beyond.
