The 2023 Waste Management Phoenix Open is set to tee off on Thursday, February 9. The four-day event, set to be held at TPC Scottsdale in Arizona, will have a stacked 132-player field. Golfers will compete against each other for the $20 million prize purse and the Official World Golf Ranking points on offer.

The 88th edition of the "People's Open" will be headlined by World No. 1 Rory McIlroy. The golfer will tee off on Thursday along with World No. 2 Scottie Scheffler and No. 3 Jon Rahm. The players will go up for the $3.6 million winner’s share. Apart from the top three, 34 other names in the top 50 in the Official World Golf Rankings will be on the field on Thursday.

It goes without saying that the WM Phoenix Open features one of the biggest fields in the PGA Tour schedule. While the betters are locked in on the top three to win the event, there are some sleepers to keep an eye out for.

Sleeper picks to expect at the WM Phoenix Open

1) Taylor Montgomery

According to PGA Tour experts, Taylor Montgomery is one name that can’t be written off at the 2023 WM Phoenix Open. The golfer comes into the competition with +180 odds for a Top 20 finish. Sitting eighth in the FedExCup with four top 10 and another four top 15 finishes so far, the rookie could pull off a surprise at TPC Scottdale.

Making his debut in the designated event, Montgomery is being predicted by some to make a move or two in the WM Phoenix Open table.

2) J.T. Poston

Unlike Taylor Montgomery, J.T. Poston isn’t a big surprise. The 29-year-old has taken part in his share of competitions and currently sits at 49th in the Official World Golf Ranking. The golfer is not an underdog. However, his position on the rankings table is still low enough to make it to the top 30 of the WM Phoenix Open, owing to the depth of the field.

According to PGA Tour experts, Poston comes into the WM Phoenix Open with +300 odds for a top 20 finish. Having finished top 25s in the last two editions of the competition, the American is expected to make a strong push this time around.

3) Hayden Buckley

Hayden Buckley is another surprise entry on the list. The American, who was on the field in his debut as a PGA Tour rookie, failed to make the cut last year. Sitting 19th in the FedExCup with a pair of top 5s among the four top 20s, the 26-year-old will be aiming for a strong comeback this year. He comes into the event with a +500 odds for a top 20 finish.

4) Brendan Steele

According to PGA Tour experts, Brendan Steele is another sleeper on the WM Phoenix Open field. The golfer has +300 odds in the top 20 and is looking positive to pull through. Having recorded four top 10s among six top 20s at TPC Scottsdale, the American brings some experience to the competition.

Unlike the rest of the list, Steele is a true veteran of the sport and will look to use his age to rekindle something special.
