Most golfers' credibility is more often than not drawn from their list of achievements. But honestly, that is no parameter to measure how good or skilled they are in their sport.
One can be extremely good at something and not have as illustrious a legacy as somebody else. In sports, consistent injuries, competition pressure, or sometimes sheer bad luck can play roles in players not winning big titles.
The Masters, US Open, PGA Championship, and the Open Championship are considered as the four major tournaments in golf. These are coveted events and it is the dream of all golfers to win at least one, if not all, of them in their life.
However, there have been many brilliant and legendary golfers who have still not or never won a major tournament. And despite this lack of headline in their resume, they are considered as some of the best golfers in the world.
So, here's taking a look at 4 best golfers to have never won a major tournament:
#4 Rickie Fowler
US golfer Rickie Fowler made waves in his rookie year on the PGA Tour in 2010. He jumped into the top 50 OWGR positions and was selected to represent the US at the Ryder Cup. His achievements earned him the Rookie of the Year award.
However, despite this, he has never had a major tournament. His best finish at a major was coming second at the 2018 Masters. In recent years, he has struggled with his form. After some major changes in his team, flashes of his earlier self could be seen in his game.
#3 Lee Westwood
British golfer Lee Westwood is a prominent European golfer and a regular at the Ryder Cup events. He ended Tiger Woods' long reign as world no. 1 in 2010. He, along with fellow compatriot Luka Donald, is known for reaching the world no. 1 spot without ever winning a major.
He holds the record for playing in the most number of major tournaments without winning one. His best finish in a tournament, so far, was second at the 2010 Masters and the 2010 Open Championship. In 2022, he defected to the controversial LIV Golf series from the PGA Tour.
#2 Xander Schauffele
US golfer Xander Schauffele turned pro in 2015 and immediately made the world take notice of him with his brilliant play. He even picked up two wins in his rookie year. He even won the Olympic gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in Japan.
However, despite being known for being a consistent performer, he has never won a major tournament. His best finish is ending up T2 at the 2018 Open Championship and the 2019 Masters.
#1 Paul Casey
Paul Casey is one of the unluckiest golfers out there. The 45-year-old English golfer has never won a major championship despite having 21 pro tour wins. The golfer, who currently plays in LIV Golf, has five top-10 finishes at the Masters from 2004-2017, including three consecutive finishes of sixth, fourth and sixth. However, has never managed the top three.
One of the golfer’s best-ever major finishes came in the 2022 Players Championship, where he settled for third. In 2020, he was exceptionally close to claiming the PGA Championship. However, he fell short of Collin Morikawa and ended up sharing T2 with Dustin Johnson.
