The full roster of golfers for TGL, which is a new golf league founded by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, is full of stars. Some of the best golfers in the world are on the roster and have been split up and put on their respective teams.
Top guys like Collin Morikawa, Xander Schauffele, Wyndham Clark, Patrick Cantlay, Hideki Matsuyama, Max Homa, Tommy Fleetwood, and Ludvig Aberg headline the league right now and will be featured every Tuesday beginning on January 7.
However, this is not a copy of the OWGR list. Many great golfers are onboard, but not all of the top-ranked players have joined at this time. Here are some examples, excluding LIV Golf since it appears as if they're not going to be invited to join anyway.
5 stars missing from TGL
5) Brian Harman
Brian Harman is an interesting omission. He was fresh off the Open Championship win in 2023 when TGL was first forming. However, he either wasn't asked or turned it down. His rougher 2024 might indicate that that was a blessing in disguise as he doesn't have extra on his plate this year as he attempts to regain form.
4) Robert MacIntyre
With his first-ever PGA Tour win and more success in 2024, Robert MacIntyre has truly broken out. However, his breakout may have come too late to truly put him on the radar for TGL. The golf league was adding players to the roster in late 2023, which was before MacIntyre hit the mainstream in the world of golf. If the additions were happening now, it might be a different story.
3) Jordan Spieth
Jordan Spieth is continuing to rehabilitate his wrist injury that nagged him throughout 2024. He was also a new father in 2023 when players were first signing up to join Woods and McIlroy's venture, so that could have played a role in his initial decision to reportedly decline. He could join later, but he's currently not involved.
2) Viktor Hovland
Viktor Hovland hasn't quite ascended to the status he was expected to when he broke out as an amateur, but he's still one of the best golfers in the world. He is currently ranked eighth among all golfers, and his best outing was arguably a third-place PGA Championship finish when he shot -18. As of now, he's not with Woods and McIlroy's league.
1) Scottie Scheffler
The world number one is the biggest and most glaring absence from TGL. Scottie Scheffler won nine times in 2024, including the Tour Championship, Hero World Challenge, the Olympics, the Masters, and the Players Championship. There is no brighter star in the entire sport, but the American hasn't joined. Even if he had, he wouldn't be playing now since he's missing some time with a hand injury.
