The cut line for the 2024 AIG Women's Open was set at 4 over after 36 holes. A total of 82 players made the cut, led by world number one Nelly Korda, who caps the leaderboard at 8-under.
While there were several surprises among the players who made the cut, there were no less surprises among those who bowed out of the tournament early. Several players known for both their history and their results this season missed the cut at the AIG Women's Open.
Let's take a look at five of them:
5 big names who missed the cut at the 2024 AIG Women's Open
Among the players who missed the cut were several Major champions. A few big names set to miss the last two days of the AIG Women's Open are:
#1 Lauren Coughlin
Lauren Coughlin arrived in St. Andrews fresh off winning the Women's Scottish Open at Dundonald Links the week before. It was her second win in six weeks and punched her ticket to the Solheim Cup for the American team.
However, Coughlin did not have an easy time at the AIG Women's Open. In the first round, she carded just two birdies and six bogeys (4 over), effectively sealing her performance in the final Major of the season.
The second round was better for the golfer as she managed two birdies, but one bogey and a triple bogey (2 over) took her out of the tournament for good.
#2 Megan Khang
Megan Khang also came into the AIG Women's Open on the back of a great performance at Dundonald Links. She tied for 3rd there, one of her best finishes of the season.
Khang could not find her best form to play the Old Course at St. Andrews. Her first round included one birdie and three bogeys (2 over), while her second round was even more unlucky with two birdies and five bogeys (3 over).
#3 Hannah Green
Hannah Green is one of only three players to win multiple times this season (Nelly Korda, Lauren Coughlin). However, she failed to find her best game in St. Andrews.
The Australian carded five bogeys and no birdies in the first round, leaving her chances of advancing very much in doubt. The golfer started the second round better and she made the cut until the 10th, but a double bogey on the 11th ended her hopes. She finished 7 over.
#4 Minjee Lee
The missed cut at the AIG Women's Open was Minjee Lee's fifth in 15 LPGA Tour events in 2024. The two-time Major champion has three top-10 finishes so far this season.
The front nine at St. Andrews was a real challenge for Lee. She carded two birdies, five bogeys, and two double bogeys in the first two rounds. Her final score was 9 over.
#5 Brooke Henderson
Brooke Henderson had two very unlucky rounds at the AIG Women's Open. In the first, she carded three birdies, six bogeys, and a double bogey, while in the second she had an eagle, two birdies, four bogeys, and two double bogeys to finish 9 over.
The 2024 season has also been a solid one for the Canadian double Major champion. This is her second cut in 19 LPGA Tour events this season. Her results include six top-10s.
