Earning a PGA Tour card is an honor for any golfer. The 2025 season will begin soon and many new players will be hoping to make their tour debut. The top 10 golfers on the season ending's DP World Tour Race to Dubai rankings will earn the 2025 PGA Tour card.
While the 2024 DP World Tour season will soon wrap up, the Race to Dubai got even more interesting. An upshot of the strategic alliance between the PGA Tour and DP World Tour, the '10 cards initiative' will see the top 10 golfers from Race to Dubai earn their 2025 PGA Tour cards. The already exempt players will not be a part of this initiative.
The '10 cards initiative' aims to provide Europe-based players a chance to get playing rights in the US. The PGA Tour also offers higher prize purses and an opportunity for them to play against many of the world's best players. French golfer Matthieu Pavon and Scottish golfer Robert MacIntyre were the first beneficiaries of this scheme; both of them won PGA Tour events in their rookie years.
While Pavon won the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines, MacIntyre secured two wins at the Canadian Open and the co-sanctioned Scottish Open. It will be interesting to see which top 10 golfers from the DP World Tour Race to Dubai event will enter the PGA Tour next season.
5 DP World Tour golfers who can earn their 2025 PGA Tour card
While Northern Irish golfer Rory McIlroy is currently atop the leaderboard in the Race to Dubai, he will not be considered for the '10 cards initiative' as he is already an exempted golfer and a prominent part of the PGA Tour.
#1 Thriston Lawrence
South African golfer Thriston Lawrence is currently ranked second behind McIlroy in the rankings. While he hasn't won an event yet, he has four runner-up finishes this season. He finished fourth at the Open Championship after a splendid performance. Lawrence is the first contendor for the '10 cards initiative'.
#2 Jesper Svensson
Swedish golfer Jesper Svensson is third on the leaderboard, 200 points behind Lawrence. Svensson won the Singapore Open and finished second at three other tournaments.
#3 Niklas Norgaard
The 2024 British Masters champion Niklas Norgaard catapulted himself in the rankings after his debut victory. The Danish golfer is currently placed fourth on points table. In fact, it was Thriston Lawrence over whom Norgaard secured a win at the British Masters. Norgaard won by a two-shot lead.
#4 Sebastian Soderberg
Swedish golfer Sebastian Soderberg is just narrowly behind Norgaard. Soderberg has been in the top five in five events but failed to win any. Recently, despite initially enjoying an eight-shot lead at the Scandinavian Mixed, he lost to LPGA Tour pro Linn Grant in the end. This was truly an astonishing loss. However, Soderberg is currently fourth on the list to win a 2025 PGA Tour card.
#5 Rikuya Hoshino
Japanese golfer Rikuya Hoshino is ninth on the Race to Dubai leaderboard and sixth in contention to earn a 2025 PGA Tour card. He jumped up the rankings after winning the Qatar Masters in February this year, his first DP World Tour title.
