The 2024 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship will be played in Scotland from 3-6 October. The event will be played at three of the world's most historic venues - St Andrews, Carnoustie, and Kingsbarns.
World number three Rory McIlroy leads a star-studded field that includes several Major champions. Let's take a look at five of the top players in the field.
5 golfers to watch at the 2024 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship
The Alfred Dunhill Links Championship will feature a number of LIV Golf players including Talor Gooch, who has not played in a world-ranked event (excluding majors) in more than a year, Jon Rahm, and Brooks Koepka.
Here are five players to watch:
#1 Rory McIlroy
The Northern Irishman arrives in Scotland having finished second in his last two starts, the Irish Open and the BMW PGA Championship. Those were his third and fourth runner-up finishes of the season, which also includes a win on the DP World Tour and two on the PGA Tour.
However, Rory McIlroy has a commanding lead in the Race to Dubai rankings and looks set to win it for the sixth time in his career.
#2 Jon Rahm
The Spaniard also comes into the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship off the back of a runner-up finish in his last outing, the Open de España. Jon Rahm is coming off a very successful season in which he won the 2024 LIV Golf individual title.
Rahm's season included two wins and 10 other top-10s on LIV Golf. As the season draws to a close, the Spaniard will be looking to reach the minimum number of events required to retain his DP World Tour card.
#3 Brooks Koepka
The five-time Major winner is one of the players in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship field who has not played in a world ranked event outside of the Majors for more than a year. His last such event was the 2023 Dunlop Phoenix Tournament on the Asian Tour.
Brooks Koepka had another very successful individual season on LIV Golf with two wins and four other top 10s. It wasn't quite the same in the team competition as his Smash GC team had a great regular season but fell in the first round of the Team Championship to finish last.
#4 Billy Horschel
Billy Horschel has just won the BMW PGA Championship, becoming the first American to win the prestigious event on more than one occasion. In 23 starts on the PGA Tour, Horschel has won one tournament and finished in the top 10 seven times.
#5 Thriston Lawrence
Entering the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, the South African is the top player this season among those currently playing full-time on the DP World Tour. Most notably, he is ranked second in the Race to Dubai without winning a single tournament during the season.
Thriston Lawrence has played 21 tournaments and made 16 cuts. He has five runner-up finishes and four top-10 finishes to his name, helping him to his current second place in the Race to Dubai rankings.
This result opens the door to the PGA Tour for next season. Lawrence will be one of 10 European Tour players to receive an American Tour card at the end of the season.
