The Genesis Scottish Open is taking place this week from July 11 to 14. It has a star-studded field including defending champion Rory McIlroy and flaunts a purse of $9 million.
The field of the Genesis Scottish Open also includes two LIV Golfers - Bernd Wiesberger and Laurie Canter. This has happened for the first time in two years since LIV players are normally banned from PGA Tour events except the Majors.
Among the 156 golfers participating, here's a list of five to watch at the event.
Players to watch at the Genesis Scottish Open
Rory McIlroy: McIlroy has had top-ten finishes in his last five starts on the PGA Tour. These include Majors, the PGA Championship and the US Open, where he landed at T12 and T2, respectivley. Before that, McIlroy won the Wells Fargo Championship. He also triumphed at the Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour.
His current form makes McIlroy a betting favorite with odds of +650 to win, according to CBS Sports. All eyes will be on him as he returns as the defending champion at the Genesis Scottish Open.
Xander Schauffele: Xander Schauffele has had 11 top-ten finishes in 2024 including at three Majors. He finished T8 at The Masters Tournament with a score of 72-72-70-73. He then won the PGA Championship with 21-under 263. Finally, he ended up T7 at the US Open. The betting odds of Xander Schauffele for the Genesis Scottish Open are +750.
Collin Morikawa: Morikawa is one of the in-form golfers this season. He has had six top-ten finishes including at two Majors. He finished T3 with scores of 71, 70, 69 and 74 at the Masters Tournament. Then, at the PGA Championship, he landed at T4 with 15-under 269 from scores of 66, 65, 67 and 71.
Morikawa’s latest performance at the Travelers Championship saw him finish T14.
Hideki Matsuyama: Hideki Matsuyama won the Genesis Invitational hosted by Tiger Woods this year. He has had four other top-ten finishes on the PGA Tour. He played excellently at the Players Championship and landed at T6, scoring 15-under 273. Following that, he appeared at the Valero Texas Open, where he finished T7 after scoring 73, 70, 66 and 71.
A T8 finish came at the Memorial Tournament while his latest top-ten finish, a T6, was at the US Open where he scored 2-under 278.
Min Woo Lee: The odds to win at the Genesis Scottish Open are +2500 for Lee. He has had two top-ten finishes on the PGA Tour, landing at T2 at the 2024 Cognizant Classic and at the Rocket Mortgage Classic.
