Neal Shipley was awarded with Low Amateur honors at the 2024 US Open held at the Pinehurst Resort and Country Club Number 2 course this week. The amateur finished tied for 26th place with a total score of six over par.

As the 23-year-old amateur continues to prove his worth on the PGA Tour, here is a look into five players who have won Low Amateur honors at the Masters and the US Open in a single season on the PGA Tour.

The Silver Cup is awarded to the Low Amateur at the Masters. Neal Shipley received the honors at Augusta National's Butler Cabin earlier this year for his stellar performance.

The 23-year-old Ohio State golfer was paired with golf legend, Tiger Woods, for the final round of the Major. That day, Shipley not only took home the Low Amateur title but also formed the memory of a lifetime, sharing the course with Woods on his 100th round at Augusta National.

This week, Shipley finished tied for 26th place with a final round score of two over par 72 that totaled to six over par 286 for all four days. He was neck to neck with fellow amateur Luke Clanton for the title but came through on the final round as Clanton went on to card in four over par on the final day to tie for 41st place.

Neal Shipley became the first player since 2019 to secure Low Amateur honors at both the Masters and the US Open in the same season and the seventh player in PGA Tour history to record the achievement.

#2 Victor Hovland

Viktor Hovland played the 2019 Masters at Augusta National. That year, he became the first player of Norwegian origin to play at the cut. He also received the Silver Cup that weekend and is yet to miss the cut at the Masters since his tied for 32nd place finish that year. He reached number one on the World Golf Amateur Rankings after his three-under-par score.

At the 2019 US Open, Viktor Hovland finished in 12th place. He fired up an incredible 280 score to set the lowest 72-hole score by an amateur. Hovland became the first player to win honors at both the US Open and the Masters in the same season since 1998.

#3 Matt Kuchar

Matt Kuchar was the Low Amateur at the 1998 Masters and US Open. He finished 21st at the Masters to set the best finish by an amateur after 72 holes of play.

While he was still a sophomore at Georgia Tech University, Kuchar went on to finish T14 at the 1998 US Open, earning Low Amateur honors for the second time in that PGA Tour season.

#4 Phil Mickelson

Phil 'Lefty' Mickelson swept up the Low Amateur titles at the 1991 Masters and US Amateur. 1991 also saw Mickelson win his first PGA Tour title as an amateur at the Northern Telecom Open.

He finished tied for 46th place at the Masters with scores of 69, 73,74, and 74 and 55th place at the 1991 US Open. The 1991 US Open recorded Mickelson's second consecutive year receiving Low Amateur honors at the Major championship.

Nicklaus finished in second place at the 1960 US Open with a score of two under par 282.
