The 2025 American Express from January 16 to 19 at the PGA West DYE Stadium Course in La Quinta, California. It will be the second full field event and the third overall in the 2025 PGA Tour calendar.
The Tour released the field for the 2025 American Express. While the line-up is loaded with brilliant players, some notable names are missing.
Top five golfers giving the 2025 American Express a miss
#1 Scottie Scheffler
The World no. 1 is currently recovering from an injury incurred during Christmas. Last week, he took to Instagram to announce his withdrawal from the American Express.
Scheffler hurt his right hand due to broken glass while preparing Christmas dinner. He also underwent surgery for the same. Last seen at 'The Showdown', the 28-year-old hasn't participated in any PGA Tour event since the injury. It's expected that he will return to competition at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am at the end of January.
#2 Collin Morikawa
The US golfer is one of the most promising players going into 2025. Almost every odd has predicted that Collin Morikawa would have an incredible season this year.
He opened his year at The Sentry, where he placed second, behind Hideki Matsuyama with a score of 32-under. The 27-year-old didn't feature in the 2025 Sony Open and won't do so at the 2025 American Express either.
However, he will be seen in action at the TGL next week. His team Los Angeles Golf Club will go against Tiger Woods' Jupiter Links Golf Club. His singles match is slated against Kevin Kisner.
#3 Max Homa
Homa was a part of the Presidents Cup winning US team last year. He opened his season at the Sentry, where he placed T26 after carding 19-under.
The 34-year-old didn't start at the Sony Open this year either. He will be seen in competitive action at the TGL next week when he his team, Jupiter Links Golf Club, will take on Los Angeles Golf Club. His singles match is set against Sahith Theegala.
#4 Hideki Matsuyama
The first PGA Tour winner of the 2025 season will be missing from the field next week. Matsuyama had led the standings going into the final round of The Sentry earlier this month and won the tournament, 35-under.
The Japanese golfer is currently playing at the ongoing 2025 Sony Open. He's T43 as the third round of the event is underway.
#5 Sahith Theegala
One of the most propitious golfers of the 2024 season, Sahith Theegala will be missing from action at the 2025 American Express next week.
The US golfer finished T35 at the Sentry earlier this month and is T20 in the ongoing Round 3 of the 2025 Sony Open. He will be seen at the TGL match between his team Los Angeles Golf Club and Jupiter Links Golf Club next week. His singles game is set against Max Homa.
