The PGA Tour players are gearing up to compete in this week's Zozo Championship. It's a four-day regular Tour event taking place in Japan, with the first round taking place on Thursday, October 24. The tournament will conclude with the final round on Sunday, October 27, at Accordia Golf Narashino Country Club.
The tournament features several top-ranked PGA Tour players, including defending champion Collin Morikawa, two-time Major winner Xander Schauffele, former Zozo Championship winner Hideki Matsuyama, and two-time PGA Championship winner Justin Thomas, among others.
However, the field is missing some big names, including Tiger Woods, who won the first edition of the event, along with players like Rory McIlroy and Patrick Cantlay. Below are the top five golfers missing from the field of the 2024 Zozo Championship.
5 popular PGA Tour golfers missing the 2024 ZOZO Championship
#1 Tiger Woods
Tiger Woods has already limited his outings on the PGA Tour. Following his career-altering accident in February 2021, he has primarily competed in Majors and signature PGA Tour events.
In 2024, he has only played in five tournaments, which also included his withdrawal from the Genesis Invitational and now the 15-time Major winner will not be playing this week. Tiger Woods won the first edition of the Zozo Championship in 2019 by defeating Hideki Matsuyama by three strokes. He is a former winner of the tournament but will miss the event this year.
#2 Rory McIlroy
Following the completion of the Tour Championship, Rory McIlroy stuck to his planned schedule for the DP World Tour. He has competed in three events on the European Tour in the last few weeks. However, fans will need to wait to see him back on the PGA Tour.
McIlroy has not played in any PGA Tour events since the season-concluding Tour Championship, and again, he will be absent from the fall season Zozo Championship. He was last seen playing at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, where he tied for 25th place.
#3 Patrick Cantlay
Patrick Cantlay is another former winner of the Zozo Championship who will be missing from the field this week. The American golfer has also not played in any PGA Tour events since the Tour Championship in August.
Cantlay won the second edition of the Zozo Championship by defeating Jon Rahm, who now plays on LIV Golf, and Justin Thomas, who will be playing in the tournament this week, in 2020. He registered a one-stroke victory in the tournament held at Sherwood Country Club in California.
Notably, it was the only time when this tournament was held in the USA; all the other editions, including the upcoming one, have been held in Narashino, Japan.
#4 Keegan Bradley
Keegan Bradley has also won the Zozo Championship in the past, but he will not be playing this week. The 2025 Ryder Cup US captain won the PGA Tour event in 2022 by defeating Rickie Fowler and Andrew Putnam.
Bradley played in the Presidents Cup following the Tour Championship but has not competed in any official tournaments on either the PGA Tour or the DP World Tour since then.
#5 Jordan Spieth
While Justin Thomas is playing this week, his good friend Jordan Spieth will miss the tournament. The 2015 Masters winner last competed at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, where he tied for 68th place, and has not played in any tournaments since then. Fans will still need to wait to see Spieth back on the greens.
