The 2024 PGA Championship at The Valhalla Golf Club reached its conclusion on Sunday, May 19. After four rounds of golf that had all the thrill and drama, Xander Schauffele managed to maintain his lead and win his first Major. Bryson DeChambeau and Viktor Hovland finished second and third, respectively.
While there were many interesting aspects of the tournament, one was the inclusion of several LIV Tour players. While golfers like DeChambeau did well, there were many LIV golfers who couldn't live up to their potential at The Valhalla Golf Club.
In this article, we will look at five underperforming LIV golfers at the 2024 PGA Championship:
5 underperforming LIV golfers at the 2024 PGA Championship
#5 Jon Rahm
The 2024 PGA Championship was the second PGA event Jon Rahm played this season after his outing at the 2024 Masters. However, unlike the Masters, where he finished T45, Rahm was unable to make the cut at The Valhalla Golf Club. This naturally was disappointing for the golfer.
A slow start but a good recovery saw him finish 1-under par at the end of Round 1. But, inconsistent play in Round 2 on Friday saw Rahm miss the cut by 2 strokes. This performance will be disappointing for Rahm as he has been pretty successful in getting top-5 and top-10 finishes on the LIV Tour.
#4 Adrian Meronk
Polish international Adrian Meronk made his second appearance on the PGA Tour this season at the 2024 PGA Championship. Earlier, Meronk competed at the 2024 Masters, where he missed the cut. Unfortunately, his outing at The Valhalla Golf Club once again had the same result.
After two rounds of golf, Meronk was +1 which means he did not make the cut to compete in Round 3. This performance will indeed be disappointing for Meronk who isn't having the best of results on the LIV Tour either.
#3 David Puig
The 2024 PGA Championship was David Puig's first outing on the PGA Tour this season. While Puig had some good results on the LIV Tour in which he was able to finish in the top 20 twice, at the PGA Championship, the Spanish golfer failed to make the cut.
After the end of two rounds, Puig scored +3 and was unable to make the cut. It will be interesting to see how he recovers from this performance in future tournaments.
#2 Phil Mickelson
Like Tiger Woods and Matt Fitzpatrick, Phil Mickelson is another high-profile name who failed to make the cut at the 2024 PGA Championship. After not winning anything this year on the LIV Tour and at the 2024 Masters, Mickelson might have hoped to have a good outing at The Valhalla Golf Club.
However, on Friday, after Round 2, Mickelson had a combined score of +4 which did not give him the chance to make the cut. This performance was indeed disappointing for all his fans.
#1 Andy Ogletree
Towards the end of April, Andy Ogletree finished 3 at LIV Golf Adelaide. This position he achieved in Australia made many hopeful that he would be delivering some great performances in the near future. However, that wasn't the case at the 2024 PGA Championship.
After two rounds, Ogletree scored +6, which definitely put him out of contention to play in Round 3. This performance will indeed make Ogletree go back to the drawing board and come up with a better play in the next event he plays at.
