The year’s last major championship in golf is off to a great start at the beautiful Whistling Straits Course overlooking Lake Michigan in Wisconsin, USA.
Indian golfing champion Anirban Lahiri, who impressed the crowd during the long drive contest on Wednesday with a sizzling 327 yard drive for which he had decided to donate proceeds to the Wisconsin branch of the Vipassana Meditation Centre, was in good form on Day 1.
He had a flawless front nine, with 3 birdies putting him at 3 under at the turn. He fired 3 more birdies in the back nine but 2 bogies and a double bogey ensured that he finished at respectable 2 under par 70 for his first round. This puts him tied at 15th place with the likes of Hideki Matsuyama, Martin Kaymer, Paul Casey and Y.E.Yang among others.
American Dustin Johnson has the club house lead at 6 under after Day 1 and only 1 shot ahead of David Lingmerth of Sweeden.
