Australia’s Jason Day hits a shot during the first round of the Byron Nelson Championship in Texas on May 16, 2013. Day and last week’s Colonial winner Boo Weekley were added to the field for the US Open tournament, the USGA announced.

FAR HILLS, New Jersey - Former tournament runner-up Jason Day and last week’s Colonial winner Boo Weekley were added to the field for the US Open tournament, the USGA announced.

Australia’s Day and American Weekley were part of a group of 26 players who earned full exemptions Tuesday to the major championship tournament.

Day, who was the runner-up at the 2011 US Open, is ranked 25th in the world while Weekley moved up 56 spots to number 55 after his Colonial victory.

Twenty-five of the exemptions were given to players ranked in the top 60 of the world golf rankings.

Also earning full exemptions through the official world golf rankings were: Tim Clark, George Coetzee, Nicolas Colsaerts, Jamie Donaldson, Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano, Branden Grace, Bill Haas, Peter Hanson, Russell Henley, Billy Horschel, Fredrik Jacobson, Thongchai Jaidee, Martin Laird, Paul Lawrie, Marc Leishman, Francesco Molinari, Thorbjorn Olesen, D.A. Points, Ian Poulter, Marcel Siem, Henrik Stenson, Richard Sterne and Kevin Streelman.

The 26th player to earn a full exemption was the European Tour’s BMW PGA Championship winner Matteo Manassero.

The 20-year-old earned a spot in the US Open after becoming the youngest-ever winner at the circuit’s flagship event on Sunday.
