Founded in 1999, the Barracuda Championship is an alternative event on the PGA Tour that takes place in California. The Tahoe Mountain Club's Old Greenwood Course will host the 2024 Barracuda Championship from July 15–21. The purse for the event is $4 million, with $720,000 going to the winner's share.
The tournament was shifted from its old site at Montrêux Golf & Country Club south of Reno, Nevada, to Tahoe Mountain Club's Old Greenwood course close to Truckee, California, in 2020. The 2023 Barracuda Championship was won by Akshay Bhatia, defeating Patrick Rodgers in a playoff; he earned $684,000 of the $3.8 million purse.
Flooding in West Virginia in 2016 necessitated the rescheduling of the Greenbrier Classic; as a result, the event's winner got entry into the Open Championship for a non-exempt player. It was revealed in the middle of 2021 that the European Tour would co-sanction in 2022.
In 2008, The Legends at Sparks Marina signed on as the inaugural title sponsor for the tournament. After two years, the name was reverted to "Reno-Tahoe Open" in 2010, and Barracuda Networks became the title sponsor in 2014.
The tournament has been using the Modified Stableford scoring system since 2012. The prior occasion that it was implemented for a PGA Tour event was at the 2006 International in Colorado. In this format, a golfer's under-par score gives a greater score than an over-par penalty.

Barracuda Championship 2024 Course Details
The Tahoe Mountain Club's Old Greenwood course in Truckee, California, will host the 2024 Barracuda Championship; the legend Jack Niklaus was the architect of the course. The Sierra Nevada Mountains surround the 600 acres of forest and meadowland that make Niklaus' golf course the ideal venue for the Barracuda Championship.
The geography of Old Greenwood's 18-hole course shapes it more than most other courses. The course is breathtaking, but aside from the stunning scenery, playing it might be challenging, as it has 140 slopes and 75.2 overall.
