The 2023 Open Championship winner, Brian Harman, was born on January 19, 1987. He also finished tied for second place at the 2017 U.S. Open, with Hideki Matsuyama being defeated by Brooks Koepka, by a margin of four strokes.

His amateur career at the University of Georgia was superb, with a 2003 U.S. Junior Amateur win, a 2005 Players Amateur win and a 2007 Porter Cup record of 258, under 22. He was also honored with the NCAA Preview in 2005 and the Isleworth Invitation in 2006. Notably, he was a 2nd-team All-American three times.

Harman initially played on the eGolf Professional Tour, after tuning pro in 2009. His first professional win came at the 2010 Manor Classic; however, his first PGA Tour win came at the 2014 John Deere Classic, where he defeated Zach Johnson by one stroke for a score of 262, under 22.

Harman won his first major championship in July 2023, winning by six shots at the Open Championship, making him the third left-handed Open champion, after Phil Mickelson and Bob Charles, and the fifth left-handed major champion.

In the second round, Harman took command of the championship with a 65 that was more than eight strokes better than the field's average. He led by five going into the last round and won the Open by six strokes in the end.

Brian Harman's caddie

Brian Harman's caddie is Scott Tway, as of April 2024.

Tway is originally from Oklahoma City in the United States and comes from a golfing family, as his elder brother, Bob Tway, famously won the 1986 PGA Championship with a hole-in-one bunker shot against Greg Norman. Tway has been Harman's looper for a long time; the two have won two PGA Tour championships together. The American has been caddying for Harman for almost a decade, although he wasn't on the bag when Harman won the 2014 John Deere Classic.

During his first round, Harman summoned a medic to assist Tway, who had been ill all night. Sadly, he was unable to continue, and Jay Hatch, a local high school softball and basketball coach, took his place. Hatch declined to accept any recognition for Harman's eight-under-par first-round performance.

Their strong bond was evident following Harman's 2017 Wells Fargo Championship win. Following the round, Tway stated, "Well, you want him to want to go for it. That's the kind of attitude that you need to have if you're going to win."

Scott's nephew, Kevin Tway, who is Bob Tway's son, also placed in the top 10 at the same event as Harman. Tway has caddied for several players over the course of his lengthy career, including Scott Verplank and Chris Kirk.

Tway claims that his maiden victory while caddying for his older brother at the 1995 Heritage Classic was his greatest victory to date. He also likes baseball, American football, and the UFC.
