Born on May 18, 1994, Christiaan Bezuidenhout is a professional golfer from South Africa who has won three times on the European Tour. He emerged victorious in the 2019 Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters, the 2020 Alfred Dunhill Championship, and the 2020 South African Open, all in a row.
Bezuidenhout was suspended from competition as an amateur after testing positive for beta blockers during the 2014 Amateur Championship. Bezuidenhout used them to treat his stutter and anxiousness following an unintentional poisoning when he was just two years old. Originally set to last two years, the suspension was shortened to nine months.
Early in 2015, Bezuidenhout became a professional. In September 2015, he enjoyed success as he won the Order of Merit, lost in a playoff for the Big Easy Tour Championship, and won two 36-hole events on the Big Easy Tour.
Bezuidenhout won the Sunshine Tour Q School in December 2015. He came in second to Brandon Stone in the season's opening tournament, the 2016 BMW SA Open, co-sanctioned with the European Tour.[5] He finished second in the Vodacom Origins of Golf Final and won the Sun Fish River Challenge, a minor Sunshine Tour event, in 2016. Bezuidenhout began 2017 by placing fifth in the Dimension Data Pro-Am and the Eye of Africa PGA Championship. He received the Bobby Locke Trophy as the Sunshine Tour Rookie of the Year in 2016–17. That was just the beginning for him! Now, he has achieved so much more. In July 2022, Bezuidenhout achieved his best PGA Tour finish. At the John Deere Classic, he was three strokes behind J. T. Poston in a tie for second place. In addition, this performance secured him a spot in the 2022 Open Championship.
Bezuidenhout was chosen in September 2022 to play for the International team in the 2022 Presidents Cup. He participated in two games, winning one and drawing the other.
Bezuidenhout finished one stroke behind amateur Nick Dunlap in the runner-up position at The American Express in January 2024, tying his highest PGA Tour result. Because Dunlap was an amateur, he claimed the first-place reward money.
