American professional golfer Collin Morikawa was born on February 6, 1997, and is a member of both the European and PGA Tours. He had an incredible debut on the PGA Tour, making 22 straight cuts, which is only surpassed by Tiger Woods' record of 25 consecutive cuts.

Morikawa has six PGA Tour victories, including two major championships—the 2020 PGA Championship and the 2021 Open Championship—both in his maiden appearances. Interestingly, in May 2018, he held the number one position in the World Amateur Golf Ranking for three weeks.

Morikawa turned professional in 2019 and made his debut at the RBC Canadian Open, placing T14. After finishing fourth at the 2019 John Deere Classic, he got his PGA Tour card. Morikawa earned his first PGA Tour title in the Barracuda Championship, defeating Troy Merritt by three points.

In 2020, he took a three-month break due to COVID-19 and returned to the Charles Schwab Challenge, where he tied for the lead but lost a short par putt on the opening playoff hole to Daniel Berger.

Despite only being 27 years old, Collin Morikawa has already made a name for himself as one of the top players on the PGA Tour. In 2019, Morikawa made a big impression on the PGA Tour by winning the Barracuda Championship in his debut season and the PGA Championship a little more than a year later. Morikawa was considered a rising star at the time. He's now in his prime, having won six times already. Few rising prospects in golf have a stronger record in majors than Morikawa. He hopes to win another in the 2024 PGA Championship, where he and Xander Schauffele were tied for first place on the last day of play.

Collin Morikawa’s Major Championships

Collin Morikawa has won two major championships: the 2020 PGA Championship and the 2021 Open Championship.

Collin Morikawa won the PGA Championship on August 9, 2020, shooting 13 under par and finishing with a winning score of 267. With a two-stroke advantage over American Dustin Johnson and Englishman Paul Casey, he sealed the victory.

Morikawa’s 64 in the final round of the 1995 PGA Championship tied Steve Elkington's record for the lowest final-round score by a PGA Champion. At the age of 23, Morikawa's victory made him the third-youngest winner of the PGA Championship.

Furthermore, Morikawa demonstrated his golfing skills once more on July 18, 2021, at the Open Championship. His remarkable 265-stroke total, which was 15 strokes below par, won him the championship.

This time, he took a two-stroke lead over Jordan Spieth, scoring yet another spectacular triumph in his career. Since Bobby Jones in 1926, he has been the first player to win two majors in eight or fewer starts. Additionally, he made history by being the first player to win two separate majors in his debut appearances.

What has Collin Morikawa been up to in 2023?

Morikawa led the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions after 54 holes in January. He played the first 67 holes of the event without making a bogey, but after that, he made three straight and ended two strokes behind Jon Rahm. This tied the record held by Morikawa on the PGA Tour for the largest 54-hole deficit lost.

In February 2023, he came in three strokes behind Max Homa to finish solo third in the Farmers Insurance Open.

Later in July, Morikawa shot a bogey-free 8-under 64 to tie for the lead at the 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic after 72 holes. He finished in a tie for second place with Adam Hadwin, falling short of Rickie Fowler's birdie on the opening playoff hole.

Morikawa's 27-month winless streak on the PGA Tour came to an end in October when he finally won the 2023 Zozo Championship.
