Erik van Rooyen is a professional golfer who was born in South Africa. He started playing golf in 2009, when he enrolled at the University of Minnesota. He primarily played on the Sunshine Tour and other tournaments after turning pro in 2013.
He won his first professional event at the 2016 Tapemark Charity Pro-Am, where he overcame Justin Smith by five strokes.
Once again, van Rooyen won the Hainan Open after moving to the Challenge Tour in 2017. After putting in a great performance that placed him third in the Challenge Tour Race to Oman rankings, he was awarded a card for the 2018 European Tour season.
He qualified for the PGA Championship in 2019 and placed T8. A turning moment in his career came when he won his first championship on the European Tour at the Scandinavian Invitation in August.
He won his first PGA Tour event, the Barracuda Championship, in August 2021, defeating Andrew Putnam by a five-stroke margin. He won his second PGA Tour event at the 2023 World Wide Technology Championship with a score of 261, under 27, defeating Matt Kuchar and Camilo Villegas by two strokes.
