Britain’s Roger Chapman, the reigning US Senior Open champion, has withdrawn from the US Open because of a shoulder injury, organisers announced on Wednesday.
The 54-year-old Englishman, who was born in Kenya, also won last year’s Senior PGA Championship, which was his first major crown in the 50-and-over events.
Chapman’s withdrawal from a fully exempt spot opened the door for Scott Stallings, a 28-year-old American, to play in his first US Open after being the first alternate from the 36-hole Memphis sectional qualifying event on Monday.
Stallings has won two US PGA Tour titles, the first at the 2011 Greenbrier Classic with a birdie on the first playoff hole and the second last year at the True South Classic.
