GOLD COAST, Australia (AFP) –
Australia’s Karrie Webb overhauled the overnight leaders to win a record eighth Australian Ladies Masters title at Royal Pines on Sunday.
Webb, 38, swept home on the back of four birdies in her closing six holes to win the 54-hole event by two shots.
Webb carded a final round of five-under 67 for 13-under 203 to beat overnight leaders, Australia’s Oh Su-Hyun (70-64-71) and Thailand’s Ariya Jutanugarn (69-65-71).
South Korea’s Chella Choi also finished joint second after rounds of 69-67-69.
Webb’s finish gave her a winning start to 2013 after her first-ever winless calender year in 2012.
“I’m very happy, it never gets old to get a win here. What a way to start the year,” she said.
Webb won the first of her eight titles in 1998 with her other victories coming in 1999, 2000, 2001, 2005, 2007 and 2010.
