The Open Championship starts tomorrow, with many of the world's best golfers competing for the fourth and final major trophy of the year. Many of these golfers are supremely accomplished, with some of them being particularly prolific at this tournament in specific. The following golfers have more Open Championship triumphs in their career than the rest of the players they will be facing this weekend.
Golfers with multiple Open Championship wins in 2024 field
3) Ernie Els
Ernie Els, who just won his first senior major and third title of 2024, is one of the few participants with multiple titles. The legendary golfer won in 2002, and then again a decade later in 2012. It's been more than a decade since his last victory, and it would be a big surprise to see the veteran golfer add a third Claret Jug to his tally this year.
2) Padraig Harrington
Padraig Harrington is one of just three golfers to have won this prestigious tournament more than once. He has two titles in his career, winning back-to-back in 2007 and 2008, which ironically came right after Tiger Woods won two straight in 2005 and 2006. He currently plays on the PGA Tour Champions, but he's one of the most decorated golfers in this field with his two Claret Jug wins.
1) Tiger Woods
Tiger Woods has the most Open Championship wins to his name of anyone in the field. He won in 2000 and then consecutively in 2005 and 2006. It has been a while since those wins, but of the three in the field right now with more than one titles, Woods seems like the most likely candidate to add another. He remains a long shot due to his age and health, but he's still one of the most talented players golf has ever seen.
Who can become a multi-time Open Championship winner in 2024?
Aside from the above players, no one in the field has more than one Open Championship win. However, there are quite a few who might add their name to this list with a win in 2024.
These include reigning champion Brian Harman and:
- Shane Lowry
- Rory McIlroy
- Phil Mickelson
- Francesco Molinari
- Collin Morikawa
- Louis Oosthuizen
- Stewart Cink
- Zach Johnson
- Darren Clarke
- John Daly
- Todd Hamilton
- Justin Leonard
- Cameron Smith
- Jordan Spieth
- Henrik Stenson
Stenson won The Open the last time it was played at Royal Troon. Everyone else in the field will be competing to win their first-ever Claret Jug.
