Professional golfer Harold William Varner III was born in Akron, Ohio, on August 15, 1990. He has competed on the PGA Tour and is presently a member of the LIV Golf League.
After becoming a professional in 2012 and participating in the Florida Tour and the eGolf Professional Tour before joining the Web.com Tour in 2014, he played in 21 events, making 13 cuts and placing in two of the top 10.
He finished in the top 25 five times in 2015 and finished second at the Panama Claro Championship. He earned a PGA Tour card for the 2015-16 season by finishing 25th on the Web.com Tour regular-season money list, becoming the first American black golfer to progress from the Web.com Tour to the PGA Tour.
The Australian PGA Championship, which was jointly sanctioned by the European Tour and the PGA Tour of Australasia, was Varner's maiden professional golf victory in December 2016. He is the first American winner of the Australian PGA Championship since 1978. Along with Tiger Woods, he became the third black man to win on the European Tour, following South Africa's Vincent Tshabalala.
Following the announcement in August 2022 that Varner had joined LIV Golf, he finished the 2022 season with three top-3 finishes on LIV Golf but no victories. He did, however, win the 2023 Washington DC LIV Golf event and took home $4.1 million with a final score of 204, under 12.
