Wyndham Clark has had a disastrous campaign in the 2024 Open Championship at the Royal Troon Golf Club. To make things worse, he had a terrible shank on the par-4 14th hole, and fans weren't impressed with the American golfer who will represent Team USA in the upcoming Olympics.

Clark stood on the 13th hole after a diabolic triple bogey on the previous hole. Clark's tee shot went into the native area, which had a deep rough, and getting the ball out of it was challenging. But no one expected a complete shank from Clark as the ball barely got out of the rough.

Fans reacted to this shank and showcased disappointment as Clark will represent Team USA in the upcoming Paris Olympics.

"And he’s supposed to represent us in the Olympics?" they said.
"Can we replace this guy on the Olympic team. Idk how he made the team mwith how he has been playing" said another fan.
“USA team Golfer” btw," tweeted one fan.

However, some fans defended Clark and said this was the best he could do from that lie.

"1. He’s lucky he even found that 2. That’s a pretty good out considering. 3. Nice lie for his next shot for being in that area," said one fan.
"I mean what are you supposed to do when you're buried in that?" a fan tweeted.
"I’m not sure what’s expected out of such a lie. At least it’s out… Maybe don’t hit in there?" questioned one fan.

A brief look at Wyndham Clark's performance at the 2024 Open Championship

Wyndham Clark is one of the top golfers on the OWGR. He is currently ranked 5th and has registered one victory and two runner-up finishes so far this season. His performance in the Major Championships this year has been disappointing as he finished T56 at the US Open and missed the cut at the Masters and the PGA Championship.

Clark is in a similar position at the 2024 Open Championship as the American golfer carded +16 and is placed 152nd on the leaderboard. The projected cut line is around +4, so the 30-year-old golfer has no chance of getting into the weekend at the Royal Troon this week.

Clark began his campaign with +7 on day one. It was one of the poorest rounds of golf, but the worst was yet to come. Clark carded +9 on day two to reach the bottom half of the leaderboard and is set to register his worst finish of the season.

The Royal Troon has been a challenging course, and as of now, only 13 golfers have remained under par. Shane Lowry currently leads the event with a score of -7, while Daniel Brown is behind him at -5.
