PGA Tour winner Anthony Kim disappeared from the media after a series of injuries. Kim recently made a comeback to the sport after a 12-year break, playing in the Saudi-based LIV Golf League.
Anthony Kim returned to social media after facing several physical and mental struggles. He said:
"I also wanna highlight stories of resilience and persistence..."
The 2008 Team USA Ryder Cup winner marked his return with a last-place finish at LIV Golf's event in May 2024. Despite missing the cut, Kim had high spirits and was encouraged to come back to the sport.
The former World No. 6 opened up about his struggles in an interview titled "The Journey Back" with LIV Golf.
Anthony Kim's "The Journey Back" - an overview
Anthony Kim revealed the reasons behind his absence during an interview with LIV Golf's David Feherty.
Kim addressed rumors of a $10- $20 million insurance settlement for a career-ending injury. He underwent a spinal fusion surgery as a result of a herniated disc. He said:
“I know public opinion is that I took this money and ran and decided I was going to just kinda hang out. But that wasn’t the case at all. I had multiple, multiple surgeries in a few years. And my body still isn’t what it used to be.”
Anthony Kim battled addiction issues and was the victim of scam artists. He credits the birth of his daughter for "saving" him.
The 2009 Presidents Cup winner revealed that he never "loved" the sport.
"I don’t think I ever loved it. Golf was filled with lots of different emotions for me. Because my family had to go through a lot to get me this opportunity to play golf. So with that added pressure, I was willing to risk a lot more. That was my nature. I was aggressive on the golf course, I was aggressive off the golf course, and that led to my demise.”
